～につれて

Expresses the idea that as one thing changes, so does another; 'as', 'along with', 'while'.

At a glance

～につれて means "as A changes, B changes too". It links two gradual changes that happen together over time.

[Noun] + につれて、[change]

年としを取とるにつれて、記憶力きおくりょくが衰おとろえてくる。 As people get older, their memory weakens.

How to form it

Attaches to Form Example
Verb Dictionary form + につれて 増ふえるにつれて "as it increases"
する verb ～するにつれて 進歩しんぽするにつれて "as it advances"
Noun (a change) Noun + につれて 成長せいちょうにつれて "as they grow"
い-adj / な-adj Add なる first 暑あつくなるにつれて "as it gets hotter"

Register: neutral to formal. につれ is a more formal written form.
