~ないで

Express 'without doing ~' or 'without ~ing'.

At a glance

~ないで means "without doing ~" or "instead of doing ~". It shows that one action is not done while another action happens.

Verb (ない-form) + で

砂糖さとうを入いれないでコーヒーを飲のみます。 I drink coffee without putting sugar in it.

How to form it

Take the ない-form of the verb and add で.

Verb group Dictionary form ない-form ~ないで
う-verb 書かく 書かかない 書かかないで
う-verb (~う) 使つかう 使つかわない 使つかわないで
る-verb 食たべる 食たべない 食たべないで
