At a glance
Verb (dictionary form) + の turns a verb into a noun, like "-ing" or "to ~" in English. You can then use it with が, を or は, for example to talk about likes and skills.
Verb (dictionary form) + の + が / を / は
本を読むのが好きです。 I like reading books.
How to form it
Put の directly after the dictionary form. The verb does not change.
| Verb group | Dictionary form | + の | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| う-verb | 読む | 読むの | 読むのが好きです。 |
| る-verb | 食べる | 食べるの | 食べるのが好きです。 |
| する | する | するの | 勉強するのが好きです。 |
| 来る | 来る | 来るの | 来るのを忘れました。 |
Other plain forms also work before の: 行かないの (negative), 行ったの (past). Never use the ます form before の.
