At a glance
それから means "after that" or "and then". It connects two actions in the order they happen. It can also add one more item: "and also".
[Sentence 1]。それから、[Sentence 2]。
昼ごはんを食べました。それから、図書館へ行きました。 I had lunch. After that, I went to the library.
How to form it
それから is a connector. It does not conjugate.
| Where it goes | Example | Register |
|---|---|---|
| Start of a new sentence | 食べました。それから、出かけました。 | Polite and casual |
| After a て-form, in one sentence | 食べて、それから出かけました。 | Polite and casual |
| Before one more item in a list | コーヒー、それからケーキをください。 | Polite and casual |
それから itself is neutral. The verb at the end of the sentence sets the politeness: ます form for polite, plain form for casual.
