どんなに~ても

Expresses 'no matter how much' or 'even if'; emphasizes the degree of a situation.

At a glance

どんなに~ても means "no matter how (much)...". It says that the result stays the same, however high the degree of something is.

どんなに + [verb て-form] + も
どんなに + [い-adj stem] + くても
どんなに + [な-adj] + でも

どんなに頑張がんばっても、試験しけんに合格ごうかくできませんでした。 No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't pass the exam.

How to form it

どんなに comes first. The word after it takes the ても / でも form:

Attaches to Form Example
Verb て-form + も 頑張がんばる → どんなに頑張がんばっても
い-adjective ~くても 高たかい → どんなに高たかくても
いい よくても どんなに天気てんきがよくても
な-adjective ~でも 便利べんり → どんなに便利べんりでも
Noun adjective + noun + でも どんなにひどい雨あめでも

The pattern itself is neutral. Politeness is shown at the end of the sentence (ます / です or casual form).
