~としたところで

Means 'even if' or 'even assuming'; emphasizes that the outcome won’t change.

At a glance

~としたところで means "even if we suppose ~, it won't make a difference." It is used when the speaker thinks an action or situation would not change the outcome, which gives it a sense of futility.

[Plain form] + としたところで、[no change / no use]

今いまから勉強べんきょうしたとしたところで、試験しけんには間まに合あわないだろう。 Even if you studied from now, you probably wouldn't be ready for the exam.

How to form it

Use the plain form before としたところで. For verbs, the dictionary form and the た-form are both common. The て-form cannot be used.

Attaches to Form Example
Verb plain form (dictionary, た, ない) + としたところで 行いく/行いったとしたところで
い-adjective plain form + としたところで 高たかい/高たかかったとしたところで
な-adjective stem + だ/だった + としたところで 簡単かんたんだとしたところで
Noun noun + だ/だった + としたところで 事実じじつだとしたところで

The pattern itself is plain. Politeness is shown at the end of the sentence (でしょう, ません).
