Noun も兼ねて

Show that an action also serves an extra purpose; 'also as', 'partly for', 'while also'.

At a glance

Noun も兼かねて means "also as [noun]" or "partly for [noun] too". It shows that one action also serves an extra purpose.

[Noun] も兼ねて、[main action]

散歩さんぽも兼かねて、近ちかくのスーパーまで歩あるいて行いきました。 I walked to the nearby supermarket, partly as a stroll too.

How to form it

兼かねて is the て-form of 兼かねる "to serve as, to combine". The purpose goes before も兼かねて:

Attaches to Form Example
Noun Noun + も兼かねて 散歩さんぽも兼かねて
する-noun Noun part only + も兼かねて 運動うんどうも兼かねて
Verb Dictionary form + こと / の + も兼かねて 友達ともだちに会あうことも兼かねて

The main action comes after the comma. The expression works in both speech and writing, and it sounds slightly formal.
