Noun まみれ

Expresses a state in which something is entirely covered or filled with something else.

At a glance

Noun + まみれ means "covered all over in [noun]". It is usually used for unpleasant things like mud, sweat, blood or dust that stick to a surface.

[Noun] + まみれ

彼かれの服ふくはペンキまみれだ。 His clothes are covered in paint.

How to form it

まみれ attaches directly to a noun. It works like a noun itself:

Pattern Example Meaning
Noun + まみれだ / です 手てが油あぶらまみれだ。 My hands are covered in oil.
Noun + まみれの + noun ほこりまみれの本ほん a book covered in dust
Noun + まみれで 泥どろまみれで帰かえる to come home covered in mud
Noun + まみれになる 汗あせまみれになる to get covered in sweat

It attaches only to nouns, not to verbs or adjectives. The register is neutral, so it is fine in both conversation and writing.
