Express a sense of regret; 'I wish', 'it would have been better if'.

At a glance

~ばよかった expresses regret about the past: "I should have..." or "I wish I had...". With a negative verb it means "I shouldn't have..." or "I wish I hadn't...".

I should have gotten up earlier.

How to form it

Change the verb to its ば-form and add よかった, the past of いい "good". For regret about something you did, change ない to なければ.
