How to make verbs negative in both plain and polite styles.

Plain negative uses ない ("don't do"). Polite negative uses ません (present) or ませんでした (past). You use these to say "I don't...", "I didn't...", etc.
Rules
- Godan: Change the last syllable to the あ-row and add ない. う → わない (e.g. 歌う → 歌わない). 書く → かかない, 飲む → のまない.
- Ichidan: Drop る and add ない. 食べる → 食べない, 見る → 見ない.
- する: しない. 勉強する → 勉強しない.
- 来る: 来ない (こない).

Polite negative: ません / ませんでした
Same stem as polite ます, but ます → ません (present) and ました → ませんでした (past). Examples: 書きます → 書きません, 書きました → 書きませんでした; 食べます → 食べません; します → しません.

Example sentences
肉を食べません。
I don't eat meat.
