At a glance
どこか means "somewhere". It is used when the place is unknown, not decided, or not important. In questions it usually translates as "anywhere".
どこか + (に / へ / で) + Verb
夏休みはどこかへ行きたいです。 I want to go somewhere during summer vacation.
How to form it
どこか is どこ ("where") + か. It goes where a place word would go, usually with a particle chosen by the verb:
| Combination | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| どこか + に / へ + movement verb | どこかに行きたいです。 | I want to go somewhere. |
| どこか + で + action verb | どこかで食べましょう。 | Let's eat somewhere. |
| どこか + に + ある / いる | かぎはどこかにあります。 | The key is somewhere. |
| どこか + verb (conversation, に / へ dropped) | どこか行こう。 | Let's go somewhere. |
The same pattern makes 何か "something", だれか "someone" and いつか "sometime".
