At a glance
どの means "which" and always comes before a noun. It is used to ask about one item within a group of several known items.
どの + Noun
どのかばんが田中さんのですか。 Which bag is Tanaka's?
How to form it
どの goes directly before the noun. The noun then takes the particle the sentence needs.
| Use | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Subject (が) | どの人が先生ですか。 | Which person is the teacher? |
| Object (を) | どの本を買いますか。 | Which book will you buy? |
| Place (で) | どの駅で降りますか。 | At which station will you get off? |
| Destination (に) | どのバスに乗りますか。 | Which bus will you take? |
| With です | 教室はどの部屋ですか。 | Which room is the classroom? |
どの cannot stand alone. Without a noun, use どれ.
