How to form it
The result of the change takes に. The same pattern works with な-adjectives, but い-adjectives use く instead of に:
| Word type | Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Noun | noun + になる | 医者になる "become a doctor" |
| な-adjective | drop な + になる | 静かになる "become quiet" |
| い-adjective | い → く + なる | 暑くなる "become hot" |
なる is an う-verb and conjugates like this:
| Form | Polite | Casual |
|---|---|---|
| Present | なります | なる |
| Negative | なりません | ならない |
| Past | なりました | なった |
| Past negative | なりませんでした | ならなかった |
