Noun を くれる

Expresses that someone gives a thing to the speaker or someone close to the speaker.

At a glance

[Giver] が [Thing] を くれる means "someone gives [thing] to me" or to someone on my side, such as a family member. The giver is always someone other than the speaker.

[Giver] が (私に) [Thing] を くれる。

友ともだちが本ほんをくれました。 My friend gave me a book.

How to form it

The giver takes が and the thing takes を. The receiver takes に, but 私わたしに is usually left out. くれる is a る-verb. When the giver is higher in status, such as a teacher, use the honorific くださる.

Form Casual Polite Honorific (polite)
Present くれる くれます くださいます
Negative くれない くれません くださいません
Past くれた くれました くださいました
Past negative くれなかった くれませんでした くださいませんでした

The polite form of くださる is くださいます, not くださります.
